During the debate, you will have to defend why your form of government is the best form of government. Last 10 miuntes of class: Answer the exit slip and turn in at the door! Agenda:
Compare and Contrast democratic and non-democratic governments - Journal Entry! Pretend you are a citizen of a non-democratic country. Make-up Work Day!
Today is the last day in class to work on missing assignments until conferences (next week!) I will pass out the assignments that have been graded, plus a conference reflection sheet. When done with all missing work, staple all work together in this order:
Debate on Kavanaugh + Start on Unit 2! Today we are going to have a short debate on the Kavanaugh case. At the end of the introduction, we are going to stand on different parts of the room, and have a discussion over whose story you believe. Sentence Starters for Respectful Debate Debate's over! - In your notebooks, write a half-page reflection on the debate.
To start unit 2, we are going to research different kinds of democracy. First, though, what makes America a democracy? Write some thoughts in your notebook. Red and Black Cards You will receive a playing card on your desk. The card will be black or red, and will have a certain number on it. That will partner you up with someone in the room for a short research project we will be completing for the next couple of days. Myanmar vs. Brazil's Democracies In your partnered group, you will research Brazil's democracy and Myanmar's democracy. Their version of democracy is much different than America's; your job is to find out why. In your research, you will answer these questions:
People who got the Red cards will be researching Myanmar. People who got Black cards will be researching Brazil. Partnered groups will consist of people who got the same numbered card (example: if you both got cards with "9"s on them, you are partners for the project)
